Polarity is the distinction of affirmative and negative, which indicates the truth or falsehood of a statement respectively.

Natural Language

In the UNLarium, polarity may assume two values:

{{#tree:id=nl_polarity|openlevels=0|root=Polarity|

  • affirmative (AFM)
  • negative (NEG)

}}

Examples

  • English
    • not = NEG
    • never = NEG
    • none = NEG

UNL

In UNL, the attribute polarity may assume two values:

{{#tree:id=nl_polarity|openlevels=0|root=Polarity|

  • @yes
  • @not

}}

The attribute @yes is the default value and may be omitted
I do live here = live (or live.@yes)
The attribute polarity, when lexicalized, must not be informed
never = never (and not never.@not)

Examples

  • @not: I don't live here = live.@not
