UNL Archive

Preserving the legacy of the UNL Project

The UNL Archive is a repository dedicated to preserving and providing access to the materials produced by the Universal Networking Language (UNL) Project, an international initiative that sought to represent knowledge in a language-independent way through machine-tractable semantic networks. Conducted first by the Institute of Advanced Studies of the United Nations University in Tokyo (1996–2001) and later by the UNDL Foundation in Geneva (2001–2015), the project developed a comprehensive formalism for multilingual communication, knowledge representation, and natural language processing. Although the initiative has been discontinued, its outputs are now made freely available to the community through this archive. All materials are provided “as is”, with no further development or support, ensuring that the documentation and resources remain accessible for historical, academic, and technical reference.
